Well… Week 5 of the One Room Challenge had plans, and then those plans had other plans. Let’s talk about my attempt to make cushion covers—because oh wow, what a journey that was.

The Cushion Cover Fiasco
I was feeling ambitious this week. Armed with enthusiasm (and some amazing deals), I set out to DIY the cushion covers for my built-in bench. Joann is going out of business (RIP), which meant I scored a massive piece of foam for the seat cushion, extra foam for the back, and plenty of batting—basically for pennies. I also found this beautiful blush pink fabric that I fell in love with instantly. Ideally, I would’ve waited for my wallpaper to arrive so I could match the fabric properly, but it was such a good deal I couldn’t let it go.
I needed 4.5 yards of fabric. There were only 3.5 on the bolt. And, of course, it was the only bolt. So I did what any optimistic DIYer would do—I bought it, convinced I could make it work.
Spoiler alert: I could not.
Turns out cushion covers don’t magically stretch themselves to fit. Who knew?
To be fair, if I was just upholstering and stapling the fabric to the bench, it would be enough, but I really want to be able to remove the bottom cushion cover and wash it when I need to, because- kids.
But it’s not a total loss—I’ll check some other Joanns close-ish to me and online and see if I can find more of the same fabric. If I can’t, then I’m sure that pretty pink fabric will find its moment somewhere else in another project down the line. On the bright side, I did manage to get the bottom cushion wrapped in batting, which is at least some progress!
The Real MVP of the Week: My Table + Chairs Arrived!
Now for the fun part—furniture delivery day! My Roma 67” Oval Table from Pop Maison finally arrived, and I am obsessed. The wood grain? Absolutely stunning. The arched legs add such an elegant, sculptural touch, and although it’s longer than my previous table, it’s much narrower so it takes up way less visual and physical space. It completely transformed the room.
And the Oslo chairs? Let me tell you—these are not just chairs, they’re lounging thrones. The deep seat and perfect cushion firmness make them incredibly comfortable, and the green upholstery is the exact muted, earthy tone I was hoping for. They complement the table beautifully and add a soft contrast against the rest of the room’s palette.
So while the cushions were a miss this week, the table and chairs are a total win. Next week, I’m hoping the wallpaper arrives (fingers crossed!) and I can finally start tying everything together.
Let’s just say this: progress doesn’t always follow a plan—but hey, it’s still progress.
What do you think of the table and chairs combo?
