DIY Dog Stairs

It never fails- I put Phoebe the corgi in bed but at some point in the night, she needs to investigate something, to keep the family safe, of course, so she jumps off the bed and does her duty as body guard and then clicks her way back into my room bc wakes me up to put her back on the bed.

It’s the worst. And I can’t handle it anymore.

So I dug through my never ending scrap wood pile and made her some stairs.

I pieced mine together with what I had but here are the plans for you to make your own:

Materials:

4x8 3/4” MDF or plywood panel

1/4” plywood

One Stair tread cut into 10” wide pieces

Krazy Glue Fast Dry Wood Glue

Nails and nail gun

Clamps

Miter saw or circular saw

Paint

Caulk

Optional:

Runner or rug cut to size

Staple gun

Scissors

Lighter

Once all cuts are made, glue and clamp the sides and supports, shoot in some nails and let sit for 10 minutes and then glue on the stair treads. I used weights to hold them on. Then attach the risers to the fronts.

I used some scrap pieces for slats to make a design that matched my walls but you can skip this step if you want.

I caulked all seams, then I painted it Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black to match my walls.

For the runner, I cut down an old rug and used a lighter to keep the edges from fraying, then used a staple gun to attach it.

After a few treats, she successfully goes up the stairs but we’re still working on going down.

She still prefers to yeet herself off the bed. Maybe she feels like she’s flying, I don’t know but at least I’m not being woken up to pick her up and instead am only being woken up when she pushes my head off my pillow with her loafy body.

Success.
